These lines are already changing... Switz +3 (-120) vs. USA -3 (EVEN)... What do you think Starr, you're the hockey pro

well....
Switz plays a much more defensive style. Last time they played USA they only got off 15 shots (1 goal) whereas USA took 24 shots (3 goals). Overall, this game can be considered a weak performance on the part of USA. Offensively, they should have gotten more shots and more goals. However, Coach Burke is stressing upon Team USA to tighten up defensively. This probably means we will see a better defensive performance and similar offensive performance from USA. It's a tough call at +2.5, but at +3 or more, I would take Switz +3. Guess at final score: 3-1 USA (same as last game)
Finland and Czech both have good rosters and good goalies. Finland's goalie is probably a bit better and Czech has played a slightly easier schedule. I would take Finland.
Slovakia has Gaborik, Hossa, Sata, Visnovsky and Chara. Sweden has their fair share of strong players, but most important: Lundqvist between the pipes 100% save percentage this Olympics. Get ready for a good game. I would guess its going to be a tight game, so I gotta go with the team who gets points. I won't enjoy Gaborik vs. Lundqvist (two Rangers), but I would go with Slovakia +1.5. (one contributing factor is Slovakia's 2-1 win over Russia.
Sid vs. Ovechkin. Close, but the edge goes to Ovechkin. Secondary scoring. Close, but the edge goes to Canada. Past performance. Edge goes to Russia. Difficulty of schedule. Edge goes to Russia. Goaltenders. Close, but edge goes to Canada. This will be an excellent game. Ovechkin does more than people know. The hardest and most accurate shot in the NHL. Leading goal scorer. Leading points. #28 in hits. This is significant. As a goal scorer, how is he #28 in hits? That is incredible. Fast as hell. More endurance then most players. Cocky as hell. 6'2", 225lbs. HUGE. A team playing Ovechkin needs to have a player shadow him, but even then he is dangerous because he can likely skate faster, skate longer, and outhit his shadow. Stay too far from him and he'll fire a massive shot. Get to close and he'll skate right by you. Get beat by him and your teammates will have to cover for you, leaving Malkin, Datsyuk, Semin, Federov, Kozlov, or Kovalchuk open. Gonchar is no slouch on defense either.
I know Canada is looking for redemption and they are playing at home. But based on their performance thus far in the olympics AND the fact that they played last night, I wouldn't be surprised by a Russian win.
The truth is, I am not nearly as sure about these picks as I have been about other hockey picks in the past, but these games are too fun to watch to not have a little extra riding on them. It's only money anyway, right?
Switz +3
Finland pick
Slovakia +1,5
Russia pick
If I go 2 for 4 or better on these I will be excited.

I went pretty big on this... 1 parlay with all 4 games (HUGE multiplier), and then 4 individual bets on each game... I took the same picks as you EXCEPT I went with Canada over Russia... lol We'll see how it plays out
Feb 24, 2010 · Flag
Here's something else to consider...Luongo will be Canada's goalie tonight.....
Feb 24, 2010 · Flag
I know... I'm kinda worried about that. Germany got 2 goal on him last night and that could've easily been a shut out
Feb 24, 2010 · Flag
lol same, one of our streaks is going to end after this game tho. Go Canada!
Feb 24, 2010 · Flag
..........what the FUCK? Could I have been more wrong about Russia?
Feb 24, 2010 · Flag
ugly, ugly game for the Russians. That wasn't a team - it was a collection of superstars who were unwilling to work hard for a win. I didn't see any good passing and they carried the puck way too often. I didn't see them dump and chase even once. If they played the same strategy as USA played against Canada (only with their addition talent) and Nabokov didn't look like a wet towel out there - it could have been a very different game. oh well, cant win them all and I still went 3/4 for the night.
matt, you on the other hand, are buying the next round of drinks.
