I gotta caution you here.

Things to consider:

1. Germany has only 7 NHL'rs.

2. Kolzig's retirement hurts the German goaltending.

3. Germany hasn't won a game yet this Olympics and has 3 goals for with 12 goals against.

4. Germany lost to Belarus. Now, to be fair, I have no idea if Belarus is actually any good, but c'mon....Belarus? Probably bad, right?

5. Hockey fans are LOVING Olympic hockey. It is concentrated talent. The NHL has tons of teams and tons of players which, on average, makes creates somewhat lower talent/scoring/intensity. Not in the Olympics. Average total goals scored per game is almost 6!

6. In their 1 win, 1 overtime win, and 1 loss, Canada has scored 14 goals and only given up 7 (5 of them scored by USA (one was an empty netter))

7. After a weak and embarrassing game against Switzerland and a strong, however, still embarrassing game against USA, Canada will be in FULL FORCE.

On the flip side, Coach Babcock (terrible name) is starting Luongo in net deciding to bench Brodeur after his performance against USA. Luongo played in the game against Norway and shut out their 15 shots in the game. You can probably look at this not as a weakness, but an indication that Canada is certain they will dominate this game.

Gun to my head, I would guess Canada piles on at least 2 goals per period, while Canada puts up a bagel. Canada -4.5 looks good to me.

  Think about this:
  
  If you switched goalies in the Canada vs. USA game (ie Brodeur playing with USA and Miller with Canada) and they put up the exact same goals/shots the score would have been:
  
  Canada: 8.1
  USA: 1.5
  
  What does this tell you? It seems to me that the goalies both played incredibly large roles. When it comes down to it, I think even with Luongo in net, Canada has the better goalie and the VASTLY superior offense. I would not be surprised by an 8-0 win for Canada.

  And the streak is over! I guess I got a little cocky and wasn't doing my usual in-depth reach because I bet on Germany +4.5 prior to this post... I should've waited for Team Zaang's opinion. Starr, you were money again my friend. I did win on Knicks +10 though (1 for 2 tonight). 13 for my last 14 picks... I will never come close to this ever again, but we'll see. Streak is now at 1...

  haha, maybe thats a little cocky, but I was sure my analysis was correct. damn, i was really hoping you checked my post before placing your bet. i've never even come close to a 14 win steak, that would have been legendary.

  lol I messed that one up big time, BUT I took Norway +3.5 last night vs. Slovakia, Slovakia won 4-3... so I am also at 2! Game on Starr lol
